Left dreaming

I was naïve.
I dreamed of peace.
They announced the countdown
And chanted every second left
As I stood there and held your hand.
We didn’t look at the big clock
But at the shining
That everyone called ‘sunset’.
We watched the last moments
Facing the dying Sun.
And when the bomb flashes
Became brighter than the big star,
I breathed in the ashes and closed my eyes
To save the image of the sunset
In my defective memory drive.
It wasn’t our war. It will never be.
They will fight. They will chant.
And we’ll be left dreaming of peace.
